Vegetarian meat dreams.

I’ve been a vegetarian for about 8 years now so it’s super weird to me that I’ve recently been craving meat like a crazy person. I have missed eating salami since day one but the past 2 months or so I have actually been craving not just salami but like steaks and stuff. I’m not sure if there is anything like nutrients or something that’s missing in my body, if I need to eat more protein? But I think I eat enough protein anyway so that’s weird. In the beginning when I first went vegetarian I had nightmares about eating meat haha and now 8 years later it’s just sweet dreams hahaha. Some days I’m seriously considering eating meat again…but I just don’t. Has anyone else felt the same way?

  1. I stopped eating pork over 10 years ago, and have yet to ever craved, I stopped eating poultry and red meat over a year ago and I had nightmares about eating meat too! I still eat seafood, however, I heard a lot of people who start eating meat again after several years.. it; IS weird! i wonder why that is.

    • Same for me, I haven’t craved pork in any form haha. I’m also still eating seafood, my doctor told me I have to cause of lack of protein and anemia and stuff, and honestly I love seafood and wouldn’t wanna give it up. But craving meat is weird haha. Thanks for your comment :)

      • Haha, you have a great blog, thanks for the response. I also had issues w/ anemia in the past, so protein is definitely one thing we shouldn’t lack. I always ask, what prompted you to stop eating meat?

      • Thank you :) I think as long as we eat seafood we should be fine ;) The reason I stopped eating was because I just didn’t like the feeling I got after eating meat…just felt tired, heavy and sick pretty much. And when I stopped eating meat I just felt healthier and lighter, if that makes sense. :) How come you stopped eating meat?

  2. I don’t eat much meat. Maybe twice a week. Bacon is basically the only reason I am not a vegetarian! Heh!

    • I actually hear that from a lot of people! I haven’t ever craved bacon but I was never really loving it back when I ate meat… Salami is the main thing I miss :) I just wish they could make vegetarian salami!

  3. I make a lot of my meals with some of the same flavors that my favorite meat dishes used, plus I try to keep them hearty, sometimes rich and always filling. I also have at least 1 protein shake to start my day, it’s after noon here now and I’m about to make another. The brand I use contains non-gmo soy, just about every vitamin in my men’s one a day and fiber so it really fills me up and stops cravings. Staring at pictures of salami probably doesn’t help much with the cravings though. lol. I get the same thing with wings – every time I’m in a restaurant and a waitress walks by with hot wings I start craving them, which is weird because even though I love the flavor I actually hate wings. :) If you’re interested, send me a message, I’ll point you in the direction of a great protein shake! Take care, good luck!

    • Thank you so much for stopping by and for taking the time comment on my post :)
Like you I also use a lot of the same spices for my vegetarian cooking as most people would for their meat. The selection of vegetarian meat substitutions we get here in South Africa is not huge but we do get chicken-style strips and beef-style strips and bunch of nuggets and hotdogs and stuff so that that’s always a good source of protein. I pretty much only drink protein shakes when I’m too lazy to cook (meaning I’m the only one at home). The one I use is USN. Not sure if it’s any good or not but it fills me up pretty nicely.
I guess you’re right about that fact that looking at salami photos won’t help with the cravings haha.
